Where Will the Event Take Place?
The event will be held at the California State Association of Counties Conference Center (CSAC), 1020 11th Street, 2nd Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814, just inside the Pyramid Alehouse, across from the Capitol Building.
What To Expect
Registration will be held from 12:30pm to 1:00pm on Sunday, March 22 at the CSAC Conference Center. Prior to registration, it is recommended that you drop your luggage off at the hotel, or check into your room, if the hotel will allow early check in. Please give yourself enough time to do this if you choose, because the event will begin at 1:00pm Sunday afternoon. Luggage can be stored at the CSAC center if you are coming directly from the airport.
Sunday and Monday’s training will focus primarily on Chapter and Division leadership training, with strategies for building effective collaboration and communication with CPA. Tuesday will be our traditional Advocacy Day where we will discuss current issues regarding psychology, provide advocacy training and meet with Legislators and their staff in the Capitol about our legislative agenda.
Legislative Office Visits
The Tuesday session consists of grassroots training and legislator office visits with your elected officials in the Senate and Assembly. Contact with your legislators is an essential step in the advocacy process. By meeting with your Senators and Assemblymembers, or their staff, you can open the door to an ongoing and productive relationship. In many cases, our members have become a source of expertise that their elected officials refer to for additional information or research. For your convenience, CPA staff will be scheduling all appointments and will match you with your State Senator and State Assemblymember.
Legislative Reception
On Monday, March 23 delegates will have an opportunity to enjoy a legislative reception while socializing with invited California legislators. This event will be held at CPA's Central Office, in our newly furnished conference room from, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and promises to be spectacular!
Attendees to the Advocacy Day on Tuesday are encouraged and welcome to attend the Monday night reception, but will be responsible for their own hotel accommodations for the night.
Travel Arrangements
LAC events will begin Sunday at 12:30pm and will end Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Southwest Airlines offers direct service to Sacramento from Burbank, Los Angeles, Ontario, Orange County and San Diego.
Hotel Arrangements
CPA and Division I are helping to provide accommodations in the beautiful Downtown Hyatt Regency.
You are responsible for booking your own hotel room. CPA has booked a block of rooms at a special rate of $139.00 per night. Please book your room early - the rooms at this rate are on a first come first served basis, and this special rate ends on March 2, 2009.
CPA and Division I will reimburse LAC participants for half the cost of the room at the special rate (1/2 of $139.00 plus tax, etc - you are responsible for incidentals). If you share a room with another LAC participant CPA will reimburse both you and your roommate each half the cost of the room, so if you split the initial cost of the room there will be not cost to you.
Upon registering for the LAC you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to book your room. Please remember to do so soon, as space at the special rate is limited. If you are unable to book a room, before the room block becomes full, or prior to March 2nd, CPA will still reimburse you half you the special rate (1/2 of $139.00 plus tax, etc - you are responsible for incidentals) you would be responsible for the additional cost.
If you have any questions regarding hotel accommodations please contact Matthew Yeates at CPA, by phone (916) 286-7979 ext. 107, or by email myeates@cpapsych.org.
