2017 The California Psychologist Themes:

Winter (Jan/Feb/March):  (Deadline Nov 7)

Inspiration You Can Use - Connecting Practice, Community and Culture: Inspiration helps us sustain our personal lives as well as our connection to the profession and our understanding of h ow social forces affect our lives and the lives of those we serve.

Spring (April/May/June):   (Deadline Feb 6)

Language and Linguistic Diversity: Language is an often overlooked but critical aspect of multicultural competence. Less than 2% of psychologist can provide services in a language other than English, yet language is central to the provision of assessment, therapy and consultation services

Summer (July/August):  (Deadline May 8)

Gender - Exploring New Frontiers:  The concept of “gender” used to have a meaning that was associated with cultural constructs, assumptions and attributions related to one’s biological sex.  Recently, the binary (male/female) concept of gender has been exploded. The meanings of change regarding this long-held social construct will be examined through the lens of both cis- and transgender perspectives, with implications for professional practice.

Fall (Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec):   (Deadline July 7)

Immigration: CPA has a newly created Immigration Task Force (ITF) led by German Cadenas.  ITF's two main goals are to pull together a collection of legal and other resources for both the immigrant community and psychologists, and develop a series of tools and tips for psychologists who work with immigrants, both documented and undocumented.  This issue will be an introduction to this critical and developing topic.
