Connecting Practice, Community, and Culture
2017 CPA Convention
April 6-9, 2017
San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront
Please read these guidelines
The 2017 CPA convention will feature presentations that are rich in practical application, exploring the connections between professional psychology the broad array of settings where our knowledge and skills are used.
Our goal is to provide a learning environment at an advanced level for a sophisticated professional audience. When preparing your proposal:
- Please consider connections within and between professional psychology and our multicultural world, including implications for a diverse patient population. Proposals are encouraged to highlight the relationship between culture and mental health, including variables such as the socio-political environment, racial and ethnic diversity, disabilities, gender, sexual orientation, spirituality, developmental life-span and other elements. We are seeking proposals that illustrate the effective integration of research and practice and that provide attendees with new skills.
- Consider how you will present your information in an interactive format that will engage your audience in a meaningful way. Our attendees do not appreciate a presentation heavily dependent on lecture and PowerPoint slides, so please keep that in mind. They do appreciate information that is thought-provoking and engaging and that is based on significant experience and expertise.
- Consider how you will demonstrate the application of your information to work settings of psychologists; think in terms of what the attendees will walk away with that they can use with their patients, students, or in their particular work setting.
We welcome proposals on a wide range of topics related to culturally competent clinical practice, training and education, public service, the role of psychology in social justice, technology as it relates to psychology, and applications of psychology beyond the clinical setting such as sports, organizations, conflict resolution, and other non-clinical environments. Program proposals related to the convention theme of "practical inspiration" that examine the creative process in relation to the arts and the cultural environment in California are especially encouraged.
Important Note: Our convention is best suited for thought leaders who have significant expertise and experience to share. We have a poster session (with a later proposal deadline) that is best suited for presenting research by students.
Be aware that all presenters must register for the convention. We do offer a discounted registration fee for presenters.
Firm Deadline for proposals: August 28, 2016
Late or incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.
