Course Description:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous disorder. Patients with ASD benefit from a multidisciplinary treatment approach that includes psychologists. This presentation will explore the important role psychologists have in differential diagnosis and treatment of ASD including what psychologists bring to the most common treatment for ASD, applied behavior analysis.

After attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. State two factors that have increased the heterogeneity of the ASD population.
  2. State two important roles for the psychologist working with board certified.
  3. Describe the deficit vs. quality of life approach to treating ASD.

About the Presenters:


Doreen Samelson, EdD, MSCP is a psychologist with 30 years of experience in healthcare. She is the Senior Vice President for Clinical Excellence for the Catalight Foundation. Her responsibilities include oversight of clinical programs.
   
Bethany Thompson, MEd, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, is a BCBA Consultant and Approved Continuing Education Coordinator for the Behavioral Health Provider Network, serving over 7000 clients with autism spectrum disorder in Northern California.
