Police and public safety (PPS) psychologists play a unique role in providing consultation and guidance to law enforcement agencies, fire service departments, and their personnel.  PPS psychologists provide psychotherapy and also do assessments in the form of conducting pre-employment and fitness-for-duty psychological evaluations. They also interact directly with Chiefs of departments in the form of providing consultation.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. To identify the roles and responsibilities of PPS psychologists
  2. To develop psychological treatment plans for first responders

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Mark Kamena, PhD, ABPP, MBA, M. Crim. is board certified in police and public safety psychology.  He is a co-founder of the First Responders Support Network (FRSN), a non-profit providing residential treatment to emergency responders and their spouses/significant others since 2001 and a professor at the Wright Institute.
