Description:
Dreams are coming out of the proverbial closet during this pandemic—on blogs, websites, postings. Most, of course, pertain to the dreamer’s life, but some are “collective” or “culture” dreams that pertain to the situation as a whole. You may recall the pharaoh’s dream of seven fat and seven lean cows, which Joseph interpreted correctly. Harriet Tubman dreamed of safe routes for guiding slaves out of the South; the birth of a white buffalo, sacred to Plains Indians, and the farm where it was born, were shown in dreams; the identity and village of potential Dalai Lamas has been determined by consulting the dreams of an elders’ council.

Our Western society, being more individualistic, has not adequately recognized this crucial aspect of the dreaming mind. This program will offer fascinating current and historic examples to illustrate specific characteristics that collective dreams tend to have, based on Dr. Meredith Sabini’s research over thirty years: the dreamer is often an observer; the imagery is usually plain, not fantastical; the storyline is not based on the dreamer’s own experience; and the scope of the narrative is broad, even vast. Whether factual or metaphoric, such dreams qualify as “trans-personal.”

Please bring dreams of your own that seem collective. We will explore what the larger dreaming mind, with its wider and deeper bandwidth, has to say about the present situation and future. We need all the help we can get!

This program will be offered in safe, socially-distant outdoor settings (during good weather).
